What Does Car Insurance Cover?
We all know what car insurance is, and hopefully appreciate the financial impact that a bad situation or chain of events can have on our wallets if we don’t have it. But, let’s face it, car insurance is not going to cover everything. For example, if you are in a bad mood, and decide to take a sledge hammer to the bonnet of your car, the car insurance company will probably not be too impressed, and hence they won’t pay out. Additionally, if you are caught drink driving whilst an accident happens, this voids your car insurance policy also.
Alright - so what actually does it cover? Well, in general, car insurance is there to cover any excessive financial loss from an “accident” or “event out of your control”. For example, a burglary where the robber smashed your back window. This was not your fault, and there was nothing you could do about it. Hence, your car insurance company will cover it. Speeding, and then veering off the road? In most cases, this is not covered. It was your own fault for going too fast and losing control. Hence, you see a pattern emerging here. Lack of responsibility will not be taken as a viable excuse for a claim. Think about this before you step behind the wheel.
